Learn how to make this decorative and stitcherly historical binding with Jody Alexander. This is a non-adhesive case-binding with sewing left exposed on the spine and decorative stitching on the cover. The result is an elegant and flexible binding that is ideal for a journal, sketchbook, or artists’ book structure. As part of the workshop you will learn how to embroider the chain stitch onto paper for an added decorative element.
There will be NO kit - but rather I will guide you through gathering the tools and materials that you will need to create a successful book during the workshop and in the future with materials that are accessible to you.
I always encourage students to use recycled materials for the cover of paper case books: file folders, cereal box, etc. But, many papers will work.
Students will need the following tools: mat knife, awl, bone folder, ruler, triangle, needle, and some kind of cutting mat or protection for you work surface.
Students will need the following materials: cover paper, text weight paper for pages, linen thread for binding, pen and pencil.
Finished book size will be 5 5/8 x 4 3/8
More details regarding tools and materials will be sent upon registration.
No refunds since the workshop will be recorded and available for 1 month following the workshop date.
